Palm Hill Men’s Fellowship
All of the men of First United Methodist Church are members of the Palm Hill Men’s Fellowship (PHMF). This informal organization gets together for breakfast in Cole Hall at 8 am on the first Saturday of most months and for a bar-b-cue dinner on a Thursday evening later in the month. (See the newsletter’s monthly calendar for details.) The bar-b-cue is held in the gazebo outside of the Ockerman Building when weather permits. All men and boys are welcome to attend. Both of these are very good opportunities to get acquainted with the other men in the congregation and to meet the men of the Unitarian-Universalist congregation which shares our property.
The men sponsor an annual Mother’s Day brunch for the women of the church where they are our guests.
The PHMF is also involved in a community service mission preparing and serving dinner at the Sunrise Village Homeless Shelter in Fremont every on the third Saturday of every other month (odd months). About a half-dozen volunteers plan a menu, shop for the ingredients, prepare the meal and serve it to the residents and join the residents in the dining room to eat with them after we have served them. We ask that the men contribute $10 per month to defray the costs of the meal.
For information about the PAMF’s activities contact John Holmes.
Garden Committee
The Garden Committee is made up of members from the Methodist Church and the Unitarian Universalists who do work in maintaining the grounds. We usually schedule work to be done the first Saturday of each month starting about 9 A.M. Anyone would be welcome to join and help out. We usually operate on the basis that people can do as much or as little work as they want to. If someone wants to help once a year, every month or anything in between, any amount of help will be welcome. The usual duties include pruning, weeding, edging, trimming, sweeping and cleaning up debris. The more help we get the better the grounds look.
