Small Group Study: Half Truths

May 10, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 10:30am on Thursday, repeating until May 31, 2018

Here’s a small group opportunity to read a book and discuss it together. The book is titled HALF TRUTHS – God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other Things the Bible Doesn’t Say by Adam Hamilton.

Hamilton contends that there are some ideas Christians embrace that may not be entirely true. Some of these ideas that we claim and proclaim have a ring of truth. Some may even be partially supported by Scripture (although some are not even in the Bible). But when these sayings are examined closely, we come to discover that we are dealing with half truths at best. And at worst, despite our best intentions, speaking in half truths creates stumbling blocks for ourselves and those who listen to us.

Where do you think that these fall?

  • Everything happens for a reason.
  • God helps those who help themselves.
  • God won’t give you more than you can handle.
  • God said it, I believe, that settles it.
  • Love the sinner, hate the sin.

The author is senior pastor at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in the Kansas City area.

  • Five weekly meetings on Thursdays in May.
  • Your choice of morning or evening groups — 10:30 am to noon and 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
  • Meeting places to be arranged. Tell DiAnn if you are interested in hosting.
  • Facilitators are Pastor William Chou and DiAnn Perko.

The books are now available, with a co-pay of $7.
